The Sunshine Empire

Last week I wrote that the Republican party seemed to be counting on political amnesia on the part of the American electorate if they had any hope of their platform being bought. This week, President Obama echoed the same point at a high profile DNC fundraiser. Now traditionally the GOP and conservatives have been far more effective than progressives in framing their message for the American electorate. Yet it seems to me the message in this midterm election cycle for the GOP is being framed by the writing staff of the old show Dallas. Republicans and conservatives have not altered one bit the philosophies that drove the greatest economic engine in the world into a damn ditch. Yet they want you to walk into that bathroom and see Ronald Reagan in that shower, and make you believe that the Congresses of Dennis Hastert and Tom Delay never happened.

For those of you who do not get the reference to how they brought Patrick Duffy’s character back from the dead and the shower scene, I apologize for the horrifying image of Ronald Reagan in the shower.
