The Sunshine Empire

July 1st is a very important day in history. In 1898 on July 1st the Battle of San Juan Hill was fought by the Rough Riders and future President Theodore Roosevelt. It is also the date three years ago that this website went live for the first time. I had been writing for a while at a still standing Blogger site, but decided to take the site independent. It’s been a wild three years since the summer of 2007. When I wrote my first post on that Sunday, the Great Recession was still months away from beginning. The epic presidential election of 2008 was actually 6 months old, and 2008 had yet to begin. At that point I was telling people it was an inevitability that Rudy Guiliani and Hillary Clinton would be fighting it out for the presidency come the fall of 2008.

In the intervening years we have seen the rise and fall of our Singaporean doppelgangers. Sunshine Empire Singapore began around the same time that this website was started. While they were building an Asian Ponzi scheme that has since collapsed, we were building our page rank past them. We as a result have been read widely across South Asia. Our posts have been linked to progressive blogs and major news sites, and our Twitter feed is now past 7000 tweets. During these three years we’ve visited all the corners of this great country from Washington, to Cleveland, to Portland, to California. We’ve been through the election of 2008, and the health care reform debate of 2009-2010. Now the 2010 midterms rise in the distance.

If you’ve read us before we thank you and ask that you keep up with us, because you never know were we’ll end up in the future. My staff and I will be drinking heavily tonight, because well it’s Thursday. Here’s to another great 3 years here in The Sunshine Empire.
