Decade Old Photo And Month Old Video All That Passes For Tea Party Passion
It seems that every few months the far right Earl Grey crowd tries to stage some kind of grassroots visceral mass meeting of people to give the impression that the masses are moving with them. Every time there will be a handful of hardened believers that show up with their “Obama is Hitler” signs and they get live coverage on Fox. But I finally put my finger on it this weekend watching the 2008 election documentary from Edward Norton on HBO. The 2008 campaign was filled with actual gigantic crowds from Mile High Stadium in Denver to the millions that waited on the Mall in D.C. in the bone-chilling cold for the Inauguration. The Tea Party movement and Fox New’s slavish coverage of it is nothing more than an attempt to mimic the crowds Obama pulled in. Obama’s crowds showed the wave of rejection of Republican party policies and conservatives have been trying to manufacture the same thing all year. Discontent has grown against Obama as it would with any candidate of the opposite party, but there was never a need by the mainstream press to doctor footage to make it seem larger. While overhead crowd pictures from 1995 were used by tea people to inflate the actual attendance for Glenn Beck’s 9/11 exploitation concert in September, crowd shots from that smaller demonstration are now being used to inflate the numbers of Rep. Michelle Bachman’s clumsy attempt at grass roots populism on the Capital steps last week. Jon Stewart shows serial deceptive editor Sean Hannity for the fraud he is.
