TSE’s Tear-Away History Calendar Moment

I would be remiss if I ended today without a reference to this day in history. It was on this day in 1867 that former United States Secretary of State William Seward completed the purchase of the territory of Alaska from the Russians. Prior to that it was the responsibility of the Russians to keep watch over the Palin clan. Prior to the 1896 Alaskan gold rush the Alaska purchase had always been known as “Seward’s Folly.” I imagine by the middle of this century it will be known as “McCain’s Folly.”
