Fighting The Scourge Of Red Bull Addiction
I’m a man of many vices, but as I grow older I’ve found that I can shed some with effort. It’s now been two years since I quit smoking cigarettes, and now I am taking on an even bigger challenge. I’m trying to quit my regular energy drink addiction. As a lifelong sufferer of attention deficit disorder I’ve always subconsciously been self medicating myself with caffeine but I picked up the every morning Red Bull habit about 2005. By three years ago I was buying Red Bull by the case every week at the grocery store. Then came the afternoon 5 Hour Energy habit. I love Red Bull and hate the filling feeling of having too much coffee. But a week and a half ago I decided that it was time to move on.
I’m here to tell you that it can be done. There is a life beyond the grisly grip of the Bull. In the week and a half since I went to simply coffee in the morning I’ve had one energy drink. I had to get some cash out at a Walgreens and could not resist. My mornings will now not be ruled by the urge for that precious sweet nectar of the Gods known as Red Bull. My refuse will no longer be filled with silver and blue 8 oz cans. To be sure I’m not going cold turkey (mmmmm cold Wild Turkey) as I’ll treat myself on Steak egg and cheese day every two weeks, but I’ll not be spending my hard earned greenbacks on my $2.30 a day habit anymore.
I hope I can survive until Friday.
