Summer Of Discontent Ends With Conservatives Fighting Themselves
The summer of President Obama’s supposed discontent came to a close with the end of the August recess. But Republicans and conservatives have resumed a favorite past time, aiming their guns squarely at each other. The liberal mainstream media fed the conservative belief that there was uniformity in their ranks due in part to President Obama’s agenda. This agenda that ten million more people had voted for in the 2008 presidential election was the coming of socialist America and after division and political loss the political fortunes of the Republican party were finally showing signs of progress. Yet a scan of the news shows that internecine bickering has heralded the resumption of the civil war within the political right that had them all but lost at the beginning of the year.
Just as the political dreams of liberals were just coming back to Earth with regards to President Obama, Glenn Beck and his self congratulating 9/11 exploiting show came along and brought back the cross-recrimination that characterized the conservative movement in January. Now even Rush Limbaugh is calling Beck on his fantastically ridiculous shit. The real back biting began when Mark Levin decided to actively start attacking Beck for his craziness. Although the sanity of Mr. Levin should be called into question when one realizes that he named his two dogs “Pepsi” and “Sprite.” This coming from the holder of a J.D. degree should invalidate the Temple University Law school’s accreditation. But at least even conservatives are calling Beck on his fantasy world of politics.
I asked yesterday when someone would actually call Beck on some of the illogical grandstanding of his and apparently Katie Couric did. Now normal thinking Americans know enough to find the insinuation that the half white president of the United States who was raised by his white grandparents is racist is ridiculous. Couric, employing the secret liberal media trick of asking questions about things a person actually said, urged in an interview with Beck to clarify what he meant when he said that the President “has a deep-seated hatred for white people, or white culture.” More specifically she asked, what he meant by “white culture.” Beck’s response, “Ummmmm, I don’t know.” Lord knows that most of his followers will write it off the same way they did Sarah Palin’s vapid performance with a knee jerk declaration of Couric’s supposed liberalness. The fact that Beck has one of the highest rated shows on Fox News should tell you all you need to know about the viewership of Fox News.
But for all of the talk of Obama in decline and the troubles of his fight for health care reform, Republican numbers are not moving in response and the civil war among conservatives makes the progressives vs. blue dogs fight in the House pale by comparison. The modern conservative movement is ruled by talk radio show hosts, and they are fighting each other while their window closes.
