Speed Is The Name Of The Game, And Assorted Political Thoughts
Well it now truly appears that the speed issues that have plagued this site for the past week have finally subsided. Know I stated the same thing yesterday morning and was proven wrong so we will have to see. This incident did give me an opportunity to do some much needed upgrades even though the site itself was not the cause of the slowness, as that was server overload I’m told. But we will have to see.
What most conservatives see is blood in the water when it comes to the Obama Administration. With the President’s poll numbers dropping conservatives and Republicans are jumping with joy. As much as I find it ironic and counterproductive to be scoring political points in such times when more is at stake, I can admit to feeling the same kind of satisfaction as George W. Bush’s poll numbers drop. Also seeing even most Republicans find Sarah Palin batty is good to hear. But what does it really prove. President Obama probably should be focusing on jobs and demonstrating the improvement the economy is undergoing, but he probably sees the example of Bush’s failure to reform Social Security in his second term and Bill Clinton’s failure to pass health care reform in 1993 as reasons that the iron is hot and the time to strike is now. If a plan comes out with insurance reform and no public option this can blow over. If House and Senate clash over the public option then his numbers could still take a hit with that combined with the economy.
The economy is still is wretched shape but the curve of decline is nearing zero again. GDP loss was less than expected in the latest numbers and the Dow is back to November levels. As conservatives were crowing about the Dow’s drop being directly tied to President Obama taking office don’t seem keen to make the same analogy now that it is soaring. A look at the economic news on The Huffington Post compared to The Drudge Report is to see the ultimate in glass-half-full verses glass-half-broken mindset. But the biggest challenge going into the 2010 midterms is showing improvement in the economy as jobs continue to be a lagging indicator. By all accounts the Bush administration had the economy close to cataclysm, and Obama has it back to poor shape. All people will see is the poor shame and forget the giggling Texan was ever president.
