Republicans Suddenly Trust CBO

I was just watching defeated Presidential candidate Senator John McCain on CNN and the combative old man stated that America was waking up to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office’s report of the probable cost of President Obama’s health care reform efforts.  The price is repeated by many Republicans as sacrosanct because it comes from the CBO.  But Republicans have a funny way of suddenly trusting the CBO as some source of un-assailable information.  During the middle part of this decade when the CBO reported on the true costs, current and long term, of President Bush’s tax cuts and Iraq war most Republicans scoffed at it’s findings.  In 2004 when the CBO said that Bush’s tax cuts would not produce the fantasy manna of supply side growth in Federal revenue, the Bush White House and Republicans said they didn’t know really what could happen in the future.  The CBO also foretold of the real costs of the Iraq war when some Republicans were still attached the the fantasy of it costing $60 billion total.

Now, I’m willing to believe Congressional Republicans when they tell me that the CBO’s total predicted cost of the coming health care reform is exactly correct, if they are willing to admit that for 7 years they were completely bullshitting us about the cost of their tax cuts and Iraq war and that it doubled the total national debt between 2001 and 2007.
