Obamacare On Sunday Morning

I’m watching Meet The Press and the topic of the morning is health care. I won’t lie and tell you that the health care debate is not the sexy political topic I love debating, but it is something of great importance to the Republic. The right seems to take the opinion that health care is perfect in this country and trumpet that we have the best system in the world. This seems to be a red herring because the argument is not so much the quality of the care that the best of the best can get, but the availability and cost. The actual statistics do not support the claim that we have the best care in the world but again that is not the issue at hand. Now President Obama is pushing an August deadline to get a bill ready for him to sign. I understand that the costs and availability of health care in the United States but the push here is because Obama understands that he has the political capital and will not forever. Now Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell agreed that the issue is cost and access, and points out that Canadians and others in the world come to the United States for care, but how wealthy are these foreign nationals that come to our shores? Later in the interview he discusses a Canadian and admits that he did not have the money to come to the United States. Canadians pay far less for prescription drugs despite President Bush’s prescription drug entitlement.

Now as much as I understand the need for action now, both the need and the political realities, but I don’t pretend to know the answer, but Republicans should not stand in the way of any plan just to cause political harm to Congressional Democrats and President Obama, but Democrats should not slam something through.
