Walter Cronkite Dies And We’re Stuck With Fox News
As I was playing Tiger Woods 10 and having a Wild Turkey last night I got the news via text from Oregon that CBS News legend Walter Cronkite had passed away. Apparently he flipped his Harley or something, but seriously it’s a tragic loss. He was in his 90′s, but his passing is the passing of another era. 2009 seems to be shaping up as the year of passing eras. As when Ed McMahon died the era of all of America tuning in to one late night TV host passed, and with the death of Michael Jackson the era of all of America buying the albums of one musician passed, Walter Cronkite’s death marks the passing of the era of all of America trusting one television news person passed. To be sure that era passed long ago with the age of CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, and a lady sitting in his old chair at CBS. Yet Walter Cronkite was a real reporter and not a fancy pretty head to read the news, and we will never have that back again when it comes to the news in America again. We will always remember the true emotion that crossed his face as he announced the death of President Kennedy and took off his glasses. So rest in peace Mr. Cronkite. If only all of us could have the life he had.
