The Sunshine Empire

I live in a particularly conservative part of Florida so I am surrounded by their kind. I’ve found it interesting that after so many years of having some kind of control, conservatives are not able to comprehend that the country has moved along from their rhetoric. The find it unfathomable that someone could disagree with a direction for the country that they feel is chosen by the Lord Almighty himself. This is why during the election the “celebrity” angle was hit so hard. Obama can’t be espousing views that the majority of Americans wanted, they were just swayed by him like an American Idol episode. There must be some other sinister reason that Obama cant be President they say to themselves. They continue to insist despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary and his repeated statements of his Christian faith that he has to be a Muslim. When you knock down one weird claim another one pops up in it’s place. This brings us to the foil hat, black helicopter crowd that the media kindly calls, “birthers.” Despite the fact that the Hawaiian born President’s birth certificate is available to anyone who bothers to look it up online you still have people that insist that the certificate has never been seen. These people also think pro-wrestling is real and Hee-Haw is still on the air.

Now again these people state that they need to see the actual document and the State Of Hawaii does not release these documents to anyone. Factcheck.org thoroughly investigated the situation and found that there was no doubt that he is an American citizen. But then we come to the story of the Army soldier from Columbus Georgia that refuses to deploy because he claims the Commander-in-Chief is not a native born citizen. Maybe it’s best we not send this coward because someone that breathtakingly stupid is bound to get someone in his unit killed. President Obama is a native born citizen and there is no doubt of this. Maybe in the course of this man’s failed education he did not learn that Hawaii is a member of the United States? Either way the shamelessness with which conservative media still tacitly push this story shows that the right is bereft of ideas and will continue to drift into Whig territory as long as they rely on this group of Mensas as their “base.”
