Barack W. Obama Has Signing Statement Rejected

The entire Washington and media political establishment has a fascinating tendency for convenient amnesia. Many elected officials and media political types have often conflated the TARP legislation that was signed by President George W. Bush with the actions of the current Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama. Now today I was scanning The Huffington Post and found a story about the House Of Representatives overwhelmingly voting to reject a signing statement that President Obama signed regarding trade legislation.

Now first things first, the fact that Obama is pulling the same signing statement garbage that Bush did is deeply troubling to me despite the benign nature of the bill involved. Conservatives will point to this as proof of Obama’s slow creep of collectivist dictatorship conveniently ignoring the fact that Bush signed singing statements at a rate of a socialite and her checkbook on a Tuesday. Bush was the Knute Rockne of signing statements and I can’t remember either the Republican nor Democratic Congresses scheduling a near unanimous vote against one of his. But this should not excuse Obama from such shameful behavior. Your party is in power in both houses of Congress. If you can’t get what you want in the legislation then tough, don’t sign it or veto it. You are not the legislature.
