Assorted Media Thoughts

I had a couple of assorted thoughts on the media. First off the much ballyhooed launch of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. Now I have been a fan of Conan from the beginning, having watched him religiously while a student at the University Of Florida. Having replaced David Letterman at Late Night his humor was more akin to Letterman, and not the appeal to the widest common denominator that Jay Leno was known for. NBC thankfully put Leno out to pasture and the world watched on Monday night the change. I thought the show was fantastic and with Conan I will watch the Tonight Show occasionally when not watching my hero David Letterman. I would never watch Leno, as he was not funny. Funny thing was most of the reviews of Conan’s first night have been lukewarm. Not bad they say, but not anything special. Well if you tuned in expecting unoriginal jokes to which the band leader laughs hysterically, you were not going to enjoy it. Leno is gone, and Conan is not Leno.

NBC also unveiled their documentary Inside The Obama White House last night as well. The look inside the day to day operations of the White House was not especially remarkable, but was enjoyable none the less. At one point they show White House televisions tuned to Fox And Friends. This as an Obama supporter troubles me greatly. Even in my youth when I was a proud Republican, I could not stand that show. Steve Doocey is someone I would not mind being exiled on a island in the Indian Ocean. Now I was up way too early this morning and that annoying freecreditreport.com commercial came on leading me to accidentally flip by Fox and Friends. Instead of discussing the day’s news about the tragic Air France flight like CNN was, the Fox and Friends were discussing a blog that makes fun of Obama’s teleprompter. They then went into a discussion of how thrilled they were that the TV was on their show in the White House. Anyone who enjoys that show should move to Mississippi and join your kind.

The people of Mississippi will be sure to take the bait on what will be the next chapter in the Obama Manchurian Muslim conspiracy. The President is in Saudi Arabia and I’ve read that some conservatives are spitting mad. They also forget that President Bush made two trips there with plenty of sweet hand holding in the waning months of his administration. That’s fine I’m sure. But the real kicker was he spoke Arabic during their public appearance. This will bump around Redstate and Michelle Malkin’s blogs for months putting the Dijon mustard thing to shame. That’s my prediction.

  1. I’m sure you’re right about the Arabic business. God forbid we should have an articulate President who can speak to others. Heresy! Doom!

At any rate, as far as the Fox News Thing in the White House goes, that doesn’t surprise me a bit. I doubt anyone is tuning in for shits and giggles. You’ve got to know what Fox is saying, 24/7, because they’re morons with a pulpit and it’s best to know what nonsense is spewing from that pulpit.

  2. Crustle is right about keeping FoxNews on, because to me it’s no longer news. It’s a source of entertainment, something like Cartoon Network.
