A Battle Begins For Every Office In Florida

Well the political down season that had me struggling to find subjects to write on has changed drastically here in The Sunshine Empire with the move of Governor Charlie Crist into the race for the vacated Senate seat in 2010. The Governor has sky high approval ratings but faces the wrath of the undercurrent of Florida conservatives that see him as nothing but a RINO. The feeling among hardened conservatives that the only way to achieve political power in Washington is to become more pure in their conservatism runs counter to the benefit of having a moderate Republican and much more reliable win to deal with in the 2010 midterm elections. When Al Franken is seated in Minnesota the Democrats will have 60 seats in the Senate, and if Florida falls to newly declared Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Florida CFO Alex Sink Republicans risk irrelevance. Nate Silver over at fivethirtyeight.com has a great comparison on the Republican primary electorate and how they break down politically between Florida and Pennsylvania.

In Florida only two Democrats hold any statewide office, and with Democratic Senator Bill Nelson not in the race the only Democrat name in the state was Alex Sink. Sink is the wife of former Democratic Gubernatorial nominee Bill McBride. Also, although he has not announced any plans State Attorney General Bill McCollum has been salivating over the Governors mansion for years so he is certain to throw his hat in the ring. Charles Bronson has also expressed interest, so this looks to be a great election season to follow here in Florida. The political season is back, but when does it every leave?
