Charlie Crist, The Governorship, and John Delaney

I’m reading in Roll Call that Florida Governor Charlie Crist is all but assured to run for retiring Senator Mel Martinez’s seat when the Florida Legislative session concludes. He’ll make the announcement then and former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio has said he will not change his plans to run for the Senate seat himself. Well as I have said before I am happy with even any Republican aside from Marco Rubio when it comes to representing The Sunshine Empire in the United States Senate. TSE’s chief political adviser is the strongest of all of us in opposing Mr. Rubio, a political opportunist from South Florida. Yet if Governor Crist should decide to run for the open Senate seat and not seek reelection to the Governors mansion then I have a recommendation for a candidate for Governor, University of North Florida President John Delaney.

John Delaney is a University President, and the interim Chancellor of the State University System of Florida. He is also the former two term Mayor of Jacksonville. He is twice as qualified as either of the currently sitting United States Senators for the State of Florida. President Delaney is also not an ideologue and political opportunist like Attorney General Bill McCollum, who will most certainly announce his candidacy the minute Crist declares for the Senate.

We doubt very seriously that Delaney will even consider such a candidacy, but in the absence of any other credable candidate we can just wonder what the Republican party in Florida or the Senate could be like.
