Does Anyone Care About Madagascar?
I don’t know why I have been fascinated by the coup in Madagascar but it is riveting. Yet no one seems to notice and or care at all. Two years ago Marc Ravalomanana was re-elected to a second term democratically. I also am fascinated because I don’t really know how to pronounce Ravalomanana, but it’s a fun word to try to say. Yet Ravalomanana had become unpopular in the capital city. Enter 34 year old DJ, that’s right a DJ and mayor of the capital city Andry Rajoelina. This little punk basically put together several large demonstrations and got the military to overthrow the democratically elected ruler. Now the constitution states that he’s 6 years too young to be President, but that’s no problem with him. Yet today he invalidated a land deal with Daewoo because he says it’s unconstitutional. He sounds like he would be good in American politics. But a coup is a coup. Have fun with that one Madagascar.
