All the major editorial boards across newspaperdom are calling for the resignation of Senator Roland Burris of Illinois. I said then that I was sure, despite Senate Democrats rolling over and accepting his seating, he had paid to play in some way. Now it seems that Senator Burris has basically admitted to lying to the state impeachment panel. Is anybody really surprised? Really? Burris is the kind of politician that gives politicos in the state of Illinois the reputation as dirty. He wont resign though, and why should he. He’s now guaranteed never to win that seat outright, but there is nothing anyone can really do to remove him from it. Since the matter has been referred to the Senate ethics committee it will last beyond the two years Burris has. Larry Craig was able to survive and so will Burris. He got the notch on his monument he wanted.
