Just A Hat Tip To Fred Taylor

As a graduate of the University of Florida and a native of Jacksonville it is with sadness that Fred Taylor has been released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although the break was mutual in a sense and both sides have praised each other, it’s the end of a sports era personally. I was in the stands for what is generally considered the greatest game played at The Swamp (aka Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field) when Fred ran for four touchdowns in the defeat of then number one Florida State. Early in the game Fred’s fumbles lead basically to 14 FSU points. I was screaming that he be benched and taken out of the game. Luckily Steve Spurrier did not listen to me and he went on to score the game winning TD. His first game for the Jaguars made him an instant force and if not for Randy Moss would have been rookie of the year that year. I understand that this is the way of the business, much like fellow UF running back Emmit Smith ended his career in Arizona. But he will always be one of my favorite athletes of all time. When he does retire they should make him the second member of The Pride Of The Jaguars ring of honor. Thanks for everything Fred.
