The Sunshine Empire

I’ve spent my day feeling miserable with a cold, and when I say cold I mean cold. The sun will shine down tomorrow on an absolutely frozen empire. Here in northern Florida tonight it will be a low of 18 degrees. Today was filled with raw, dry, frigid sickness. Just a few thoughts though.

I thought Lane Kiffin got a raw deal from the Oakland Raiders, and I’ve always found his dad to be an excellent defensive mind, so I was shocked to find today that Lane Kiffn is a little bitch. On some level what he did in calling out University of Florida head coach and two time SEC and National Champion Urban Meyer in his first few weeks as coach was Steve Spurrier-esqe. He did steal a great recruit away from Florida at the last minute. But to come out and accuse Urban Meyer of being a cheat, and accuse him of breaking a rule that actually doesn’t exist is so bush league and low rent. Thankfully the little Kiffin got reprimanded by the SEC. I don’t know if little Lane Kiffin saw the schedule that has UT playing in Gainesville. He can expect the score to be run up on him and time outs at the end of the game.

At last look I’m glad to see that efforts are being made to trim this stimulus package in the Senate, but the bill is a forgone conclusion sadly.

An interesting story is brewing in central Asia with the vote on whether to close a key U.S. air base in the Kyrgyzstan parliament being postponed. Russia promised billions of dollars in aid to the Kyrgyzstan government prior to the decision to submit the closure vote to the Parliament. This would severely constrain the newly stepped up efforts to control Afghanistan’s growing violence. With Iraq’s now peaceful provincial elections and the draw down by the Obama administration it looks clearer and clearer politically, militarily and diplomatically that Asia and less with the middle east (which I know is part of Asia but you get the point.)

With it getting down to 18 degrees here in northern Florida tonight I will be curious how many times the “Global warming my ass” joke will be made tomorrow.
