Obama One Step Forward And Two Steps Back So Far
During the election I was a supporter of Barack Obama’s and gave money to his campaign. While I did not find myself in lockstep with Mr. Obama, I found myself in most agreement with him than with any other presidential candidate I have cast a vote for. But this week has brought good and bad news when it comes to my relationship with the president-elect. The first good news, as I have written below, is the selection of Leon Panetta as CIA chief. Good news in that it marks a break from the torture and warrant-less wiretapping of the Bush years. Yet as Obama moves away from the Bush administration on that front, it seems to have embraced the wildly idiotic spending and tax cutting policies that he seemed to reject during the campaign. Out tax cutting George W. Bush without the benefit of a surplus is sheer madness. The week dollar will not survive this reckless fiscal policy all just to get recalcitrant Republicans on board his stimulus package. Now even Obama seems to be praying at the alter of supply side Jesus. The political wrangling on this after trillions have already bled out of the Treasury has me believing that no-one is capable of solving this now.
