On Bad Dem Pardons, And Perfectly Acceptable GOP Pardons

Even eight years after his Presidency the right still cannot get over Bill Clinton. When Eric Holder was named as Barack Obama’s choice for Attorney General, the last minute pardons to close the Clinton Administration again came up in GOP talking points. Other than Monica Lewinsky and Impeachment, the only other black mark that Republicans routinely bring up are the pardons. Forget that pardons of questionable figures are a hallmark of the end of every presidency no matter the party, these were especially heinous because Clinton did them. Also forget that George H. W. Bush pardoned those involved with the selling of arms to the theocracy in Iran, without having answered any questions about his personal involvement. So it is with this in mind that I laugh hysterically at the current flap regarding Bush revoking a pardon because he discovered that the man’s father had donated $28,000 to the Republican National Committee this year, and had his picture taken with Bush. No quid pro quo of course. After this could every conservative please shut the hell up now and stop bringing up Clinton’s pardons? Please?

  1. In what world is revoking a pardon the same as granting one?

  2. Well, for starters they both were initially granted. Just because it was revoked doesn’t mean it never happened. Seriously if not for the media uproar Bush would have never revoked that pardon. Clinton’s Marc Rich pardon I believe happened on his last day of office, he couldn’t take it back. If Bush made any mistake he did it too early.

  3. You’re right. It’s exactly the same thing.
