The Biggus Chat Room: Change, Bailouts, And 2012
Biggus: I just read your Obama post. I think you’re essentially telling people that the status quo is going to be change, just not ideal.
me: kinda
but not really
it’s kind of a twist on only Nixon can go to China
neophytes don’t change the system
people who know the system change the system
Biggus: I know you think there will be legitimate change, and I guess you could argue that, but expanding the nanny state is just more of the same trend.
Reagan didn’t change that and the Republican Revolution only curbed it a bit.
me: I don’t see that as the aim, otherwise I would not have voted for him
Biggus: His rhetoric spoke to that.
me: fuck the rest of the snot nosed group
I had my own practical reasons for voting for the man and none of them were the related to the yes we can bullshit
I’ve been consistant on that
Biggus: Maybe not, but I still think he’s going to create new programs and agencies while raising taxes to a fairly modest degree before he’s through. All of those increase the scope of the federal government.
And I think he’ll lay the foundation for the most nannyiing of nanny state initiatives, universal health care.
me: Some one as cynical as you taking a politician at his word in campaign promises?
while the left frets about him abandoning them as well
Biggus: If I took him at his word I’d expect a new New Deal.
me: But you bat nary an eye about the myriad bailouts
Biggus: I hate the bailouts.
me: I’m sick about that shit
that’s really where the big government shit is going on and it’s going to destroy the dollar
Biggus: But most people seem to think they’re necessary so why bother.
Congress gave Paulsen free reign and he’s throwing money all over the place.
me: we’ll be exchanging euros to get the good shit soon
Biggus: When the auto bailout comes it will be bad too.
I just want them to let shit fail, but God forbid we have economic turmoil on that scale.
Everyone wants their job protected and fuck the vast majority who will be unaffected.
me: we’re avoiding the next depression buy filling up the last of the credit cards
we’ve been in a recession for a year
and that’s official
Biggus: There would be no depression if they would just make people suffer through a fairly brief recession.
me: I don’t disagree
Biggus: Instead you have a bunch of experts throwing around their various answers and delaying the inevitable.
I guess that isn’t all that different from the Hoover Administration/New Deal policies when you think about it.
me: we’re fucked
Biggus: The world’s ending in 2012 anyway.
