TSE Economic Update: We’re Screwed No Matter What

I’m in a bit of a vapor lock lately. I’ve not been able to post, not been able to string together rational thought. While I’ve always been cynical, though not as cynical as some I know, I’ve been distracted by the election as some kind of vehicle to affect change. The sad truth is that we are fucked. The Treasury of the United States Government is effectively using all the credit cards it can to stave off an economic depression. As much as the Iraq war and the absurdity of the Bush administration drove me away from the Republican party, my fiscal beliefs are still intact. We are spending money in a way that should make you laugh hysterically every time any republican candidate for the next 400 years tells you that you should vote for the party of fiscal responsibility. The United States taxpayer is bailing out companies at a level that would make Marx say, “Well jeez, we got this shit.”

Yet the average American is oblivious to this situation. We are looking at the Federal Government having spent close to $4 Trillion on these bailouts just to avert the Bush Depression. That should be the legacy of Bush. The man brought honor and dignity back to the Oval Office. He also brought a nearly doubling in the national debt, torture, the largest expansion of the Federal government since the last unhinged Texan President and wars forever. All those who voted for Bush in 2004 now pretend to be dedicated Obama people and they are making amends for ruining the country. But will they be so forgiving when shit is not fixed in four years. The American voter of today would throw out Lincoln, both Roosevelts, and George Washington himself in todays climate. Carter is viewed as a horrible President for dealing with the end results of Nixon’s disastrous economic policies.

The end result of this is with nearly $4 trillion in outlays to save these banks and industries, we are not looking at anything other than massive taxes in the future or the collapse of the dollar. This money is not coming out of fucking thin air.

The American voter is nothing more than some twisted loser on Survivor lying about who their allegiances are to so that they may protect themselves. This crisis will not be solved by 2012, and no matter how good President Obama is, he will be blamed if we are not in the salad days of the economy in fucking late 2009.

I’m still depressed.

  1. Yup. :) Anyone expecting miracles from Obama will be sorely disappointed, and I do think that people are expecting miracles. All of that said, I am glad it’s him in the office now – even if he comes out of the office in four years with people throwing pies – instead of the other people who ran. No one could fix this mess. Hopefully Obama will at least … I don’t know, not make things horrifically worse.
