1000 Post Retrospect: How Wrong Was I in August 2007?

As I mentioned The Sunshine Empire crossed the 1000 post threshold yesterday. I have often spoken about my political prognostications and the brilliant things I have predicted that have come true. Yet I have been way off at times too. I was looking back to a month after I began writing at this site and I thought it was funny to read this knowing the way the race for the White House has progressed since then. Sit back and enjoy the way back machine, from August of 2007.

“As I sat daydreaming about life’s most pressing issues, like is the designated hitter in baseball destroying the fabric of our existence, I began to wander into thinking about politics. One thing that has me thinking feverishly, is who will be Rudy’s running mate? Most of the consensus thinking, and this writer among them, believe that no matter his fund-raising ability, Barack Obama will be eventual nominee Hillary Clinton’s running mate in the general election. But odds-on favorite and 9/11 first responder Rudy Giuiliani will walk away with the Republican nod, mainly because republicans would vote for a sentient toaster if it had a chance of keeping the White House. A perfect match for Rudy would be Mike Huckabee from Arkansas. He’s a Baptist minister and could deflect attention of Rudy’s broken home in his first marriage to his cousin. The man has twice as many divorces than the last 43 president’s combined. Churchgoers in Hazzard County are not going to vote for him with a good southern boy to show strength of moral character. This is supposedly the only quality that the republican party asks of it’s nominees.”

Good thing I got a little better at it. Rudy never amounted to anything, and Mike Huckabee now has a show on Fox News. Yet last but not least it is Barack Obama’s ticket and Hillary is the surrogate now.

You were worse than right, you were wrong.

That’s OK though, that’s the nature of predictions. On the bright side, now you don’t have to vote for Hillary. Though I’ll say that watching the President of 9/11 flounder would have been more fun than watching McCain lose his honor and integrity. Sad and strange days indeed.
