The Sunshine Empire

This election has been filled with the sorts of twists and turns that could only be part of a political thriller movie, and today has done nothing but reinforce that sentiment. Anyone who does not see the blood in the water around the sinking McCain ship is in a state of denial and delusion. On Monday of last week Senator McCain was telling a crowd right here in The Sunshine Empire that the fundamentals of our economy were sound. This is a man who has not cast a vote in the Senate since April of this year. The Senator has routinely dogged Senator Obama for running away from his bizarre town hall meeting-a-week demand as he has consistently trailed him in the polls. But now only Friday can be the day that John McCain can be in Washington for Senate work. The most absentee member of the United States Senate is taking a play out of his mythical VP nominee’s playbook and just running away. I almost think that Sarah Palin really does not exist. It’s like that horrible Al Pacino movie Simone, where he creates a computer generated actress for his movies.

Yet there is no doubt that McCain’s gimmick today is nothing more than panic on his part that the election is slipping away from him. His Palin gimmick has worn off on the public and he knows he will be stomped on in the debates. It is verifiable truth that McCain has employed wholesale lies in most of his attacks on Senator Obama and he will be laid bare when standing next to the man when he can respond. His people are also talking about postponing the Vice Presidential debate and if this doesn’t convince the American public of the total and complete fraud that she is nothing will. How can any candidate expect to not talk at all to the American public and be taken seriously when they expect you to buy that gun toting mamma garbage instead of a thorough vetting for the second highest office in the land. The mendacity and staggering insulting of personal intelligence that occurred with Bush is nothing compared to the McCain campaign since the RNC. Someone on the Huffington post and I forget who stated that McCain would prefer to lose his integrity than lose an election.

The clear political bottom line is this. John McCain and Sarah Palin are running away from these debates and the American people should be insulted. If John McCain had any interest in solving the nation’s economic woes he would have been there instead of giving interviews to 60 Minutes, Katie Couric, and going to hobnob at the Clinton Global Initiative and then strolling into Washington for the first time in months to save the day only on the day of the debates. If my President cant work on vital legislation and fly to Mississippi for one evening, then he is lacking the skills needed. He is doing this now because he is scared and he doesn’t want the public to know what a mental patient his VP nominee is. The thing that shows all of this to be true is the reticence of even the conservative press to swallow this. Kathryn Jean Lopez over at the Corner was skeptical, and so were the Fox News Allstars on Brit Hume’s melting face hour.

The blood is in the water, and the electoral math is getting easier by the day for Senator Obama. Meanwhile John McCain joins the cut-and-run crowd.
