The Sunshine Empire

The Democratic National Convention has begun and we are prepared for wall to wall coverage.  Currently they are showing a video with Jimmy Carter about the effects of Katrina on New Orleans.  Now as much as I think it is Republican dogma that New Orleans is just hunky dory and has been since about five days after the storm hit, I think the people in charge of the convention have put Jimmy on the first night to bury him from the real focus. I do think there is some rich irony that they have scheduled Jimmy Carter and the Ted Kennedy tribute almost back to back tonight after the destructive 1980 Democratic National Convention when Kennedy had challenged the incumbent Carter and then acted like a petulant child at the convention.

The real theme so far of the political media coverage of the DNC is their desperate need to stoke more Hillary vs. Barack drama.  Most officials with both camps say that everything is fine, and Hillary has made real steps to heal the rift between them.  Yet the “liberal” media still want to have some kind of donnybrook where there is none.

Through all of this a person who has hosted Saturday Night Live, appeared more on the Daily Show than most comedians, and has been on the national stage for more than forty years, is showing commercials saying Barack Obama is a celebrity. I wonder in which of the seven houses his sugar momma bought for him that he agreed to spend money on that spot.

Jesse Jackson Jr. is a good speaker and he seems not as full of it as his father is.

The House Speaker and Teddy Kennedy are up next, then Michelle “enslave the whitey race I’m so angry” Obama.
