The Sunshine Empire

Alaska Senator and Incredible Hulk enthusiast Ted Stevens has shockingly been indicted today.  We here have never thought that the audacity of a 60 vote Democratic edge in the Senate was a real possibility, but this puts them in striking distance at least.  Stevens was of course responsible for the best 70+ year old description of the internet, and is a fixture in Alaska politics.  His son was a prominent member of the Alaska legislature, and the elder Stevens has been in State politics since before Statehood.  Yet the race had been a tight one with Mayor of Anchorage Mark Begich recently running ahead of the 900 year old incumbent.  This with the poll results in New Mexico and Virginia point to great gains in the next Congress for Senate Democrats.
