The Other Gap-Toothed New York Celebrity Retires
The sporting press today has the news that legendary New York Giant Michael Strahan has decided to hang the cleats up after a long and storied career. Michael Strahan has the NFL record for sacks in a single season. I feel it’s ironic that the man that laid down to give Strahan the record, former Green Bay Packers legend Bret Favre, retired in the same off season. Now I feel that both Favre and Strahan are both people in the NFL that I legitimately appreciate for their personalities and play on the field, but no one should forget this sordid little tale in both of their playing careers. Too many people in American professional sport have come just so close but not close enough due to injuries and fate, from breaking legendary records. Many people also state that there should be an asterisk (I agree) on the records of Barry Bonds. But nobody seems to bat an eye to the quid-pro-quo that this little sordid incident in sports brought to get Strahan the record. That little incident aside Strahan was one of the only New York sports figures that I really enjoyed seeing speak. Despite the incident it should be noted that Strahan was unable to manage getting to the top of the mountain until he met the founder and former coach of the Sunshine Empire’s favorite NFL team the Jacksonville Jaguars. This incident takes little away from his career and he went out on top, but nobody forget the bullshit that got him his signature record. Oh also, FUCK all New York sports teams.
