TSE Election Central: The Bluegrass/Birkenstock Primary Roundup
People have asked why I did not have anything on the Bluegrass/Birkenstock Primary last night. I will confess I viewed it as the same as one of those late season pro football games where one team is just trying to get to .500 for momentum into next season, and the other team has clinched the top seed and has rested their starters.
For that reason I took in a documentary on the life of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson as part of the Jacksonville Film Festival. With a local mutual fund manager and my lovely lady friend we saw Gonzo: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. The piece was a wonderful biographical work that focused on his seminal works, Hells Angels, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, and Fear And Loathing On The Campaign Trail ‘72. The film was filled with footage I’d never seen of the Doctor, including him featured on the old game show What’s My Line? promoting Hells Angels.
My mutual fund manager friend was nice enough to buy the drinks, because he has so much money he burns it to fuel his Lincoln Navigator, but he’s a nice guy as well. Afterward there was a question and answer session, and I ended the evening with my lady friend over a glass of Wild Turkey. When I left the theater I had one text message from our good friend Jolemite, “Eat a dick KY.” I have to agree with him, but as has been stated elsewhere this is no more than Appalachia being heard. The undercard seems to be progressing into the final rounds, and the main event will put the drama of this fight to shame. It will be a political fight to the finish, and that’s a good place to stop as the late Mitch Hedberg would say.
