The Sunshine Empire Political Reader: #10 The Prince
The political season is in full swing, and this season is one that stands out already as one for the books. Politics and history are the twin passions of The Sunshine Empire, so in the vein of our All Time Top Tens, we would like to present The Sunshine Empire Political Reader. Our top ten are books that must be read to understand the full width and breadth of The Sunshine Empire philosophy. We will list ten books, but these books are in no particular order until our number one book is named.
Our first book is The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. The message of The Prince is not the one I would make myself if I were writing a treatise on politics, but the book is legendary in how it has added to our political lexicon. The term Machiavellian is valid in todays politics and one should only look at the example of the sitting Vice President. The perpetuation of power by any means may not be your endgame, but it certainly is your opponent’s. A round-about lesson of the book should also be to read about your enemy’s tactics (although that would seem a lesson of the Art Of War in reality). The book has many lessons in terms of the military, charity, and personal popularity that still apply today.

The most amazing thing to me about political commentary is how often both sides employ the terms Machiavellian and Orwellian against the other.
