Bush Has Obama Where Obama Wants Bush Wants Obama
The political commentary news cycle has settled in to discussion of George W. Bush’s comparison or non-comparison of Obama to Nazi appeasers prior to World War II. We’ve commented on our feelings on this, but the ripples among the blogosphere has been amusing. The left is in a towering rage over the comments, even eliciting an off color HBO word from Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joe Biden. The interesting reactions come from the right. Despite White House insiders telling many news organizations that the remarks were directed at Senator Obama, the White House changed track and stated that because Obama thought they were about them, then he must really think what the President said was true.
Now many on the left have pointed out that by the President’s loose standard of the word, his own cabinet contains terrorist sympathizers. Kathryn Jean Lopez over at the corner at least acknowledges this while repeating the same conservative mistrust of the State Department. Some posters at NRO’s The Corner even let loose with some anti-McCain feelings quite rightly, since this morning it was reavealed that McCain himself said on tape that we should meet with Hamas in 2006. Nobody seems to care though that Obama has never said he’d sit down with Hamas, quite the opposite. But the majority of the right wing reaction has seemed to be, “well if he’s really offended by it he must really think he is an appeaser.” One poster even said it was akin to Bush stating that he hates drug dealers, and Obama coming out and saying that he was offended that Bush was talking about him. Let’s just remember again that the White House initially admitted to it being about him, before backtracking.
All of this is also so hilarious when people say that Reagan just by force of will allowed the terrorists to release the hostages, because they did not want to tangle with him. If you don’t remember that they did this because Reagan sold arms to the Ayatollah then you are ignorant of history and have no right to discuss it. Go back to your American Idol and we’ll bring you a coloring book. Seems it was alright for Reagan to talk to Iran, but the political rules change for Democrats.

I tend to think he was talking about Carter, who had recently met with Hamas.
Doesn’t appeasing involve giving something to the other side to make it stop? I can’t remember offers of anything from anyone who has or who has mentioned meeting Hamas. Carter and McCain have mentioned meeting them and Obama has not. And I don’t want to hear that meeting them is giving them something.
It gives them credibility. But I said I think he was talking about Carter, so what Obama has or has not said is irrelevant.
