On the anniversary of being greeted as liberators
With the anniversary of the Iraq war here it is evident to all but those with gigantic elephants obscuring their vision that this was a colossal blunder and debacle. Yet too often the desperate argument against this self-evident truth is to say that those against the straight Bush line are working actively for the defeat of the United States. The insinuation that in back rooms Democrats are only against the war because they wish to see the United States defeated. They long for it they say. The fat Oxycontin gobbling radio host states that terrorists and the Democrats have the same agenda. But one thing that I never hear answered is how exactly Democrats benefit from a defeat of the United States?
The argument is a non-sequitor much like the right’s much vaunted claim that government is the problem, after they’ve pretty much controlled government exclusively for the past decade. They hate the government as if it is some shadowy force, but it’s us. A government of the people is, the people. But Democrats are not looking for defeat as much as speaking reality to people in a fantasy Orwellian world where war is peace. To say that Democrats are working for defeat immediately ends the political debate, as the other side is not operating in reality. If Iraq is making us safe then prove it and don’t result to childish name calling. Give a better answer to the lack of WMD other than the utterly baseless and disproven rumor of them going to Syria. If it’s so correct that they’re in Syria, why haven’t we invaded?
The truth is that all, that’s right all, of the claims of the anti war crowd have been right, and Cheney and his bunch are still waiting to be greeted as liberators.
