TSE Election Central: Ohio/Texas/Vermont/Rhode Island Preview
After conferring with Jolemite last night, we would like to discuss our political predictions on the big Ohio/Texas primaries tonight. The conventional wisdom being bandied about is that Hillary Clinton is going to need a big night to keep her campaign going. I don’t think that is true. The polls indicate that she has a chance to win both Texas and Ohio, but just barely. The polling in the last string of contests have shown Obama barely ahead, then stomping Clinton in the actual election. For this reason I think Obama will win Texas barely but lose Ohio. Even if Clinton where to only win one I think she stays on with Pennsylvania and a possible re-do on Florida coming up.
The only thing that would keep her from moving on is if the party’s elders come in and make her stop. The only party elder capable of moving her to that decision is the last Democratic President, and Bill Clinton is not going to do that. Even if Clinton were to win both Texas and Ohio, she’ll still be behind Obama in terms of delegates, so all the talk of anything being resolved tonight will be for not. The Republican race will be over tonight, but that’s really been the case for quite some time. Sadly the Mike Huckabee ego trip will be over. He can go back to having nutty cell phone conversations with the Almighty, as the debate is over.
The results for the night should show another record turnout for the Democrats, and hardly any Republicans. The Republicans have an excuse now, since the race is practically over, but that does not hide the anemic numbers from earlier in the race. Not to mention McCain being stomped by both Hillary and Barack in fund raising. But all in all this will just be just another night to admire Wolf Blitzer’s beard. It will be a cornacopia of political commentary for the senses. The absurdity of the process will be progressive in it’s growth.
