The Return Of Al-Sadr And The Fallacy Of The Surge

Supporters of the Iraq invasion and debacle like Presidential contender John McCain often trumpet that, “the surge is working.” Of course we have pointed out that that Daddy will stop hitting Mommy when the police are out on the porch, but violence is down. This result is always attributed to David Petraeus and George W. Bush, and the fact that it was meant to give the Iraqi government breathing room for reform is always ignored. Yet no one in the “liberal” media ever mentions that a main factor in the violence, radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and his powerful militia had declared a six month cease fire. Essentially one of the warring parties had left the battle field. How can the surge be a success when a large factor in the insurgency has not been active during the same time? Now al-Sadr is threatening to give up this cease-fire, and all the extra strain on our brave soldiers and treasure spent will be for a draw essentially. All the surge has accomplished is to take the war off of the front pages during the primary season. Even now the Bush administration has indicated across the board that it’s withdrawal that it promised when the surge began is going to be stopped. The playing of politics with the lives of our brave soldiers is disgusting.

After all of this, what has been accomplished?

Al-Sadr Threatens To End Cease-Fire

One Response to “The Return Of Al-Sadr And The Fallacy Of The Surge”

  1. As a follow-up, we are overjoyed to hear news that Sadr is continuing with his cease-fire. Sadr is a self-important jackass, but we’re glad the violence will not increase for the time being.
