Anti-Americanism, and Football

My attention deficit disorder is being challenged because I am full of coffee and watching the Jacksonville-Kansas City game, but I was reading an article about the massive amounts of Bush administration aides that have left in recent months. Nothing goes better than stimulants, football, and political commentary. Some view this as a sign of the administration imploding. I myself was reminded of Nixon in the last days of his administration. Yet as mismanaged as most of the Iraq war has been, the article in the Washington Post reminded me that their are members of the Bush administration that actually still passionately believe that what they are doing is right and history will prove them right. As much as I still feel that the invasion was a cynical lab experiment in American power and nothing to do with the struggle against terrorists, the foot soldiers in this struggle still believe in it. Many in the military feel that what we are doing is lacking in direction or purpose, many still believe in “the mission.” I don’t know whether to feel they are noble or misguided, or closed and simple minded. Our soldiers gave their lives so that the people of Iraq could have a chance at freedom of their choice. They seemed to have treated that like a nose-hair trimmer given to a teenager at Christmas. But our soldiers gave that freedom. That part of the mission is noble, but I feel never the real reason of those who initiated the excursion. But there are those that fully believe in that mission and even they are becoming discouraged.

Those who disagree with them have been called anti-American. I struggle to understand this one. Any criticism of the of the position of the American right, is called an anti-American sentiment from the American right. This is not only wrong but the hight of hubris. The American left does not hate America, the hate Rush. They do not hate America, they hate that bony-assed Ann Coulter. Ann Coulter is not even a real columnist, but has a space in many newspapers where she promotes her latest book that is always a best-seller. It’s a best seller because National Review and the Conservative book club buy up tons of them and then offer it for a dollar when you subscribe to their shit. The term Anti-American is the crutch of the week minded conservative that is bankrupt of ideas and realizes that the Republican party is no different that the Democratic party of the late 1960′s.

If Jacksonville loses to KC I think I’ll have to quit watching football.

Right after I typed that line, Maurice Jones-Drew ran 52 yards for a touchdown.
