The Sunshine Empire

I’m a little puzzled by this whole Ahmandinejad visiting Ground Zero thing. The President of Iran stated earlier that he wished to visit the site of the September 11th attacks and every card carrying republican reacted as if he said he wanted to take a shit on the baby Jesus. As much as the site is hallowed ground in my opinion, much like the sunken wreck of the U.S.S. Arizona in the depths of Pearl Harbor, every tourist and developer treats it like it’s Disney World. Granted I understand that he’s supposed to be public enemy number one, because he’s not keen on Israel and such, but the national media seem to be coming down on him like he wanted to plant bombs, or set fire to a bible there. I’m not saying I think the man is a fucking huggy bear or something, but the reaction of the press is yet another example of the myth of the so called liberal media. Political commentary has been astounding.  Progressives and liberals know that politically the press is barely center left if not right with the majority of the American opinion, but the over-reaction of the press to his asking to visit the site seems to me as a bit of an overreaction. Until the United States Government revokes the allowance of the United Nations to be in New York, and tear down the fucking building, foreign leaders get to come here whether they suck our ass or not. What if he really wanted to show respect? Why is it automatically assumed that he was going to stage a stunt. If I were him I would not have asked, and I’m not in disagreement with New York City officials barring him from the site, but the hissy fit of the National media pokes anther hole in this liberal media cabal bullshit that the Fox News crowd likes to shove down our throats. If the media where really the evil socialist liberal fifth column that wing nuts like Michael Savage and Bill O’Reilly make them out to be you would think that they would be falling all over themselves to get Ahmandinejad to the site, but instead they claim he is insulting America. Because they both should know that all of those hijackers where Iranians and Iraqis. Oh that’s right they weren’t, they were Saudi Arabian. Good thing Bush holds hands and kisses those dudes.
