The Sunshine Empire Returns
The weekend in Cleveland is over and we are all back safely in The Sunshine Empire. I was slightly chilly at the Cleveland airport, and by the end of the day was sweating in that trademark sauna like warmth of late August in the South. In Canton we found that our favorite NFL squad the Jaguars are really the bastard stepchildren of the league and would just assume would forget was there. It does make you look forward to the regular season, and those of us lucky enough to live in an NFL city experience the game first hand. But they can bite the collective ass of Duval County for all we care. Take the Jaguars for granted and get punked like John Elway in 1996 and Dan Marino and Jimmy Johnson in the 2000 AFC playoffs (Jacksonville 62 - Miami 7).
Seeing John Lennon’s glasses and Sgt Peppers jacket, along with Madonna’s cone bustier and the ZZ Top Eliminator, the highlight for me personally from the Rock and Roll hall of fame was seeing the notes sent back and forth from Rolling Stone editor Jann Werner and Dr. Hunter S. Thompson during the Presidential election of 1972. As I have said many times I am reading the book that those articles were transformed into, and Dr. Thompson is my literary and personal hero. That along with Jimi Hendrix’s outfits, and the organ used by The Doors made the trip a wonderful success. Summer is ending now and the fall begins. Well for the rest of the country it does. It just stays hot, here in The Sunshine Empire.
